"Women's Steps Into the Future"

Το έργο πραγματοποιείται στο πλαίσιο του τριετούς προγράμματος «Τα Πρόσωπα της Μετανάστευσης (Faces of Migration)», το οποίο χρηματοδοτείται από το Ευρωπαϊκό Πρόγραμμα Αναπτυξιακής Εκπαίδευσης (DEAR) της Γενικής Διεύθυνσης Διεθνούς Συνεργασίας και Ανάπτυξης της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής (SDGs and Migration – Multipliers and Journalists Addressing Decision Makers and Citizens).

"Women's Steps Into the Future"

Schedia stin Poli is implementing the project “Women’s Steps Into the Future” with the aim to empower and support refugee and asylum seeking women, especially single mothers, as one of the most vulnerable groups among refugees/ asylum seekers, in their preparation to enter the local community and labor market. Its goal is to help them become familiar with the local reality, so that they have their opportunities increased for getting a decent job and integrating in the local community. In order to work efficiently, the beneficiaries have been split into two groups according to native language (Arabic and Farsi/Dari – the two most common among asylum seekers).

Activities of the project:

·         Greek language lessons by a teacher with a specialisation in Greek as a foreign language and with the support of interpreters/ cultural mediators

·         Soft skills training seminars to develop teamwork, communication skills, problem solving, work ethic, adaptability leadership and interpersonal skills, so that they are able to implement them at workplace

·         Sewing workshops offered by our partner NAOMI, an NGO with long experience on the subject

·         Parallel educational activities for children by the educators of Schedia stin poli, in order for mothers to be able to attend the aforementioned sessions

·         Cultural activities, an outdoor game and a walking tour by volunteers of Schedia stin poli in order for the beneficiaries to become familiar with and the local cultural heritage and come closer to the locals.

·         A closing event – community festival in a celebrational form to showcase the results and communicate the project to the broader public

The lessons and the workshops will be realized in small group in order to offer the best learning outcomes to the beneficiaries women.

Cultural mediators-interpreters back the activities where needed.

The project lasts 10 months, until June 2021.

It is funded by the European Union‘s Development Education and Awareness Raising (DEAR) programme through the project “SDGs and Migration – Multipliers and Journalists Addressing Decision Makers and Citizens” and implemented with the support of ActionAid and INTERSOS Hellas and NAOMI, as local partners.
